Q: What if I have more than one cat? Which litter box should I use?
A: The LitterMaid™ Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes can be used by multiple cats:
- Standard Models: Optimal for two small cats (up to 10 lbs.)
- Mega Models: Optimal for larger cats or households with up to three cats
* The
LitterMaid™ Elite Mega Self-Cleaning Litter Box is ideal for large and/or multiple cat households
Q: Is the LitterMaid™ litter box safe for my cat?
A: Yes. The LitterMaid™ will not begin to opterate until 10-12 minutes after the cat leaves the litter box. If a cat re-enters the box in less than 10 minutes from the last entry, the sensor will reset and not start again for another 10-12 minutes.
Q: What type of litter should I use?
A: The LitterMaid™ requires the use of a premium clumping litter, lesser quality litters will impair performance. Recommended litters include:
- LitterMaid™ Premium Clumping Cat Litter
- World's Best Cat Litter
- Arm & Hammer Super Scoop
- Fresh Step Scoopable
- Ever Clean Scoop Away
Q: How much litter should I use?
A: The litter level should be just below the "full line" on the side of the unit or below the "fill line" on the Triple-Action Tool in the center of the litter box.
Q: Is the litter box electrically or battery operated?
A: The LitterMaid™ litter boxes can be operated either way! Battery operation requires the use of 8 D-cell batteries (not included) which should last 2-3 months (if being used by one cat). AC adapter included for electrical operation.
Q: How often does the waste receptacle need to be changed?
A: This depends on the size and the number of cats you may have in your household. For a household with one cat of average size, the Waste Receptacle should not need to be changed more frequently than every 5-7 days. Multiple-cat households will require more frequent changing of the Waste Receptacle.
Q: How do I clean the LitterMaid™ litter box?
- Check to make sure the Rake is in the Home Position.
- Turn the On/Off Switch to the “off” position.
- Unplug the unit and remove the batteries to prevent accidental activation of the unit.
- Lift the latches on both sides of the unit and lift up by the side panel handles – this will separate the tray from the Main Housing.
- Dispose of the used litter. Wipe the Litter Tray with a damp cloth. If further cleaning is necessary, the Litter Tray can be fully immersed in water and washed with a mild detergent.
Important: Do not soak or immerse the Main Housing in water. Dry the unit completely before reassembling.
